CORONAVIRUS

Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.

The recent emergence of corona virus has become the world’s biggest concern (and mine) in the last weeks, as it has caused an outbreak of viral pneumonia in several cities. This infection has alarmed international health care and numerous countries, which are extremely worried as they fear its rapidly expansion and transmission, and that there isn’t a cure yet. This tragic epidemic is having an enourmous international impact and will have in history too.

We have reached a point in which public fear has taken over the subject. The crises of COVID-19 shows that emotions, particularly the fear, it’s more contagious than the virus itself.

When I go out I am constantly scared of becoming infected, not just because of my health, but because I live with five other people, who are the increadibly important for me as it’s my family, and I am afraid of transmitting them the virus, as it could seriously harm my parent’s health and my older sister, who has asthma. However, despite feeling like that, I try to stay positive and think that when the world is running down, like nowadays with this virus, we have to make the best of what’s still around. Therefore, we should stay strong, be positive and help in what we can, in order to face it. I know the high risk of becoming infected is real, but I believe we have to look at the fear and be able to think that, by taking the necessary precautions, we will defeat the virus.

LISBON

Here in Lisbon there isn’t an enormous amount of victims, as in Italy or Spain, but due to coronavirus there are 60 deaths registered (17 more than three days ago) and the number of confirmed cases is now 3,5544, that is, 549 more than on Wednedsay.

This statistics have made the governemnet go crazy (and me) so they have closed barriers and impose strict precaution measures, such as not letting people go out, unless it’s for the following purposes:

  1. Go to the supermarket
  2. Go to the pharmacie
  3. Do exercise during a short period of time (I try to do it everyday)

I agree with those measures and that we should all meet them until the peak of the curve goes down. However, I am aware that it will have a huge impact on economy.

So, as you can see, these are my daily thoughs. Of course I am scared of the coronavirus, but we can’t let the virus win the battle and still less the war. We have to fight back and beat this monster that is killing people and destroying families and countries. Often we think that we are at the end of something, but I actually believe we are the beginning of something else, of a new world and society that will have overcomed a terrible epidemic by helping and supporting each other, between countries and people, wordwide.

THEREFORE, WE SHOULD PUT A TOUCH OF HUMOR TO THIS TOPIC, SO THAT WE CAN OVERCOME IT AND NOT ONLY FEAR IT

MAIN GOAL

The idea of flattening the curve is to stagger the number of new cases over a longer period, so that people have better access to careSo, The whole goal of everything right now should be to cut transmission and to contain the virus as good as possible because the health systems globally cannot cope with a fast or quick or strong influx of many cases at one moment in time

REMINDER NOTE: Things could always be better, but they could also get much worse. Everything will be okay in the end!
